What You Will Need For This Class
I will provide you with a WordPress site to practice what you learn.
Eventually you will want your own web hosting service to set up your site. I recommend that you use Bluehost, so let me tell you more about this service.
Syllabus. If You Need One.
I’m not big on the syllabus thing, but if you need one, here you go. I reserve the right to change things because I am always learning new WP things and I don’t like to stick to a strict agenda.
NOTE: This syllabus is a bit out of date as it applies to a 4 week class. This class is now 6 weeks. We will cover what is in that doc and more.
The 6 Week Line Up
- Week 1: WP At 10,000′
Getting started with the basics.
- Week 2: Building Your Site
All about links and setting your navigation.
- Week 3: All About Blogging
Setting up a WP blog.
- Week 4: Plugins – The Apss That Make WP Cool
The plugins used on most sites.
- Week 5: Plugins and Some Advanced Stuff
More plugins and some advanced topics.
- Week 6: Your Time/Show And Tell
Your time to work on your site, get some help and show your stuff.
Download this zip file which provides some starter copy and images to make some pages and posts.
You have countless choices but you will need to pick on web hosting company to host your WordPress web site. For this class I continue to recommend BlueHost.
Here’s my video on how to install WordPress using Bluehost.
My Super Duper Resources
