Watch What’s New In WordPress 4.9
The newest version of WordPress will be released on November 14, 2017. You don’t need to wait till then to see the new features.
Because this is a two digit update (4 and 9) this is considered a major change. Frankly, it won’t seem like much is going on, especially when compared to what we are likely to see in 5.0. That’s when Gutenberg, WP’s entirely new editing system, is likely to make its debut sometime in 2018.

My favorite, the Text Widget, gets some love in 4.9.
- Publishing Options are new in Customizer.
- Syntax highlighting in the Custom HTML Widget and Additional CSS in Customizer.
- Shortcode support in the Text Widget.
- Adding media in the Text Widget.
Never test a WordPress beta on a production site. Always use a test site and remember, it’s beta. That means it could be buggy and/or subject to change before final release.
